Assistant Chef
Description

 The assistant chef plays an important role in supporting kitchen operations, supervising and assisting in food preparation, contributing to menu & recipe creation under the direction of the Head Chef. This position demands a passion for cooking, a creative spark for food preparation & presentation, team collaboration and a dedication to maintaining high standards of food quality and hygiene.

Responsibilities

 

  • Food preparation: Supervise and assist in the preparation and cooking of meals, following established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Kitchen support: Perform various kitchen duties including appropriate food storage, equipment cleaning and other tasks as assigned to maintain a sanitary and efficient kitchen.
  • Menu creation: Support and contribute to the creation and development of new dishes, recipes and menus together with the Head Chef and kitchen team.
  • Quality control: Ensure food is prepared to the highest standard and in accordance with health and hygiene regulations (locally and internationally).
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure a seamless operation, stepping in wherever required to support the team.
Qualifications

  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience, with at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role or for QBE, at least 5 years experience in a similar role at a renowned hotel or restaurant
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity of Sierra Leonean cuisine and a keen interest in international and healthy dishes. Experience with other African dishes is an advantage.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced kitchen environment and perform under pressure.
  • Demonstrated passion for food, creativity, and a drive for continuous learning and improvement.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
